The workshop will focus on the design platform and upcoming funding opportunities that will be made available through the Chips Act.
The design platform, as proposed in the context of the EU Chip Act, is a cloud-based virtual environment to be made available across the Union, integrating a wide range of design facilities, from IP libraries to Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools, as well as support services. The platform will be accessible in an open, non-discriminatory and transparent way, stimulating wide cooperation between users and key actors of the ecosystem whilst reinforcing Europe’s design capacity.
Furthermore, a Chips Fund is being set up to provide financial support to semiconductor start-ups and SMEs, this will be implemented through dedicated thematic products by the European Innovation Council and the EIB Group.

November 30, 10:00 – 16:00 CET, workshop on competence centres in semiconductors
(hybrid event, in Warsaw, Poland, and online)
This workshop, organized by the Polish Ministry of Economic Development, Labour and Technology, and the European Commission, will discuss the next steps in setting up semiconductors competence centers. These competence centers are crucial elements of the Chips for Europe Initiative, which is part of the proposed Chips Act. The competence centers are expected to support SMEs with semiconductor technologies, and to contribute to training the workforce. The workshop will include discussions and presentations from centers with similar goals, such as the HPC and AI competence centers and the European Digital Innovation Hubs. December 2, 09:00 – 12:30 CET, Chips Act Skills workshop
(Brussels, Belgium. First, plenary part possibly hybrid)
This workshop will be dedicated to skills in microelectronics and semiconductors. Organised by SEMI and the European Commission, the workshop will discuss industry needs, roadblocks, and best practices. Current initiatives on skills and their outcomes will be presented. After a first, plenary part, on-site participants will be split in 3-4 groups, which will discuss topics such as facilitation of mobility, upskilling and reskilling in microelectronics, upgrading and access to laboratories, anticipating the skills for the future, etc. More information on registration will follow.
